Breaking: Emir Of Rano, Kano's New Emirate Is Dead

The Emir of Rano, Dr Tafida Abubakar Ila II, is dead. The monarch is reported to have died on Saturday at a hospital in Kano State Member representing Rano, Kibiya and Bunkur in the House of Representatives and the Turakin Rano of Kano, Alhaji Kabir Alhassan Rururm confirmed his death to DAILY POST, The reps member confirmed that the late Emir was admitted at the hospital on Friday but died after a brief illness. It is, however, uncertain if the emir’s illness and cause of death is related to COVID-19. The Emir who was aged 74, left behind two wives and 17 Children. Labour Demands Petrol Price Reduction To ₦60

Organised   Labour yesterday demanded further downward review of prices of petroleum products in the country, saying Nigerians should not pay more than N60 for a litre of petrol. This is even as it has advocated that an investment of 20 percent of the entire donations received by the Federal Government towards mitigating the coronavirus pandemic, should be used to fund the activities of various research institutes across the country. Man and his Wife Paid Assassins to kill his Neighbor Over Corona Virus Palliative

A man has been arrested by police in Idimu while his wife is at large after they allegedly conspired to kill their neighbour over COVID-19 palliatives. Rasaq Babalola and his wife identified as Mama Raheem, who live at Agbo Komolafe Street, Unity Estate, Idimu area of Egbeda, Lagos, allegedly paid assassins to kill their neighbour Emeka Anozie (pictured above right). Rasaq has been arrested and detained at the Police Station while efforts are being made to arrest his wife, who he said fled after the plot was foiled and the assassins had escaped. Trouble began when Emeka Anozie engaged the services of a chef to cook food to be shared to people in their neighborhood during the current lockdown. However, according to PM Express, the couple attempted to stop Anozie from sharing food to people in the neighborhood but he ignored them and went ahead to distribute the food to neighbours. Breast Milk Study Has Potential Corona Virus Treatment

Lactating mothers in the New York City area, as well as around the country, are signing up for a study that may lead to a breakthrough in finding a treatment for the COVID-19 coronavirus. Dr. Rebecca Powell , assistant professor of medicine, Division of Infectious Diseases, at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, is actively gathering breast milk to study the antibodies. She put out an online call for volunteers in early April and says she’s been inundated with responses—right now there are about 900 women involved and she expects that number will continue to grow. “The hypotheses is generally that there would be antibodies in the milk against COVID-19 because there is some proportion of antibodies in milk that comes from blood,” explains Dr. Powell. “We hope that the antibody levels are high and have protective function. 19 Nigerians have been killed by Security Personnel since the beginning of Lockdown

According to Amnesty International, 19 Nigerians have so far been killed by security operatives during the lockdown to contain the spread of Coronavirus. The lockdown in Nigeria began in March in some states and in April in others and a task force was set up to ensure compliance. Unfortunately, in the course of carrying out their duties, some Nigerians were killed. Joseph Pessu  was shot dead by a soldier in Warri on Thursday, April 2. His death sparked outrage and counter attacks as  youths beat up soldiers  and soldiers, in turn, threatened to deal with members of the community and  rape their women . Also, a  policewoman was shot dead  by her male colleague who is a member of the Rivers state taskforce on the COVID-19 lockdown. Three Sisters of the same mother Found Floating in a River

A tragic incident occurred on Saturday April 25, as three sisters between the ages of 14 and 20 drowned in a river at Amaeze village in Ishiagu community of Ebonyi State. The three sisters who attended Comprehensive secondary school in Ishiagu, were found floating on the water, however what led to the deaths is yet to be uncovered. The siblings have reportedly been buried beside the stream without caskets, as culture and tradition demand. The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Ivo Divisional Police Post, Mr. Nwornu Daniel confirmed the incident and he said it was a case of sudden and unnatural death.

30 Vehicles, 2 Buildings Destroyed as Fire Guts NNPC in Lagos

Eight of the vehicles were burnt beyond repair. Two buildings were also partially affected by the inferno which started around 1pm while a 50,000 capacity tanker was discharging Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) at the filling station. It was gathered that there was a spark during the PMS offload, triggering a fire and an explosion. Billows of smoke were seen from about 20km away. Sources said the fire escalated because the petrol station owners did not call emergency workers on time and tried to put it out with their fire extinguisher. Our correspondent gathered that all occupants of the shopping complex and nearby buildings fled as soon as they heard people screaming fire, run for your lives! The agency in a statement released today said face masks made with cotton materials are more effective. The statement in part reads   Non-medical face masks include self-made or commercial masks or face covers made of cloth, other textiles or other materials such as paper. They are not standardized and are not intended for use in healthcare settings or by healthcare professionals. They serve to limit spread of droplets and offer some measure of protection to those around you. The material of construction is usually cloth(textile fabric), non-woven wadding, or  paper-like materials. The decision of the Oyo State government to return about 1,800 bags of rice donated by the Federal Government to cushion the effect of COVID-19 lockdown and stay-at-home order has sparked controversy between the state and Customs.  Executive Adviser to Oyo Governor on Agribusiness, Dr. Debo Akande, said the decision to return the rice three days after its receipt was reached after series of inspections done by the food security committee of the COVID-19 task force had found the rice to be infested by weevils and other pests and unhealthy for human consumption. Akande said the government  took the decision in the interest of the health of residents of the state.
