5 Famous Footballers Who Have Killed People In Real Life
You've probably heard stories of football greats. who were sentenced to prison for one reason or the other. The likes of Ronaldinho, Tony Adams and Rene Higuita. But murder seems to be the worst of crimes and it is really bad that some footballers were found guilty of this terrible crime, even though most of the cases were unintentional.
So let's have a look at five famous footballer, active or retired, who found themselves entangled in the web of murder, and some of them had to pay the price for their actions
1. Bruno Fernandes: Brazilian goalkeeper Bruno Fernandes de Souza was found guilty of the murder of his girlfriend Eliza Samudio in 2010. He was charged with hiding her body, cutting it into bits and feeding it to dogs. He was also found guilty of kidnapping his son. He was sentenced to twenty two years in prison, but surprisingly, in February 2019, he was released pending an appeal.
2. Diego Buenanotte: In December 2009, Argentine footballer Diego Buenanotte, while driving his father's Peugeot 307, crashed into a tree. Three of his friends in the car lost their lives but Diego surprisingly survived. Calls were made for him to charged for manslaughter, but the charges were never followed up.
3. Patrick Kluivert: Probably the most accomplished footballer on the list. Kluivert won lots of trophies including the UCL with Dutch side Ajax Amsterdam. But he got into trouble when he crashed his friend's BMW M3 into theatre director Martin Putnam's car, resulting in the death of 56-year old Martin Putnam. It was reported that Kluivert had been driving at a top speed, which he could not manage.
4. Marcos Alonso: Spain and Chelsea left-back Marcos Alonso was arrested in 2011 after he crashed his car into a wall and his passenger, a 22-year old woman died as a result. It was revealed that Alonso had consumed too much alcohol and was driving at too speed when the accident happened. Alonso was to spend four years in prison, which was later reduced to 21 months. But the case was dropped after Alonso paid €500,000 for damages to the victims family
5. Alexandre Villaplane: Former French footballer Villaplane captained the French national team at the 1930 World Cup. But he was found guilty of the murder of over fifty people. And he was executed by a firing squad on December 26, 1944.
